Today is the book birthday of book one in the Arts-Angels series: DRAWN TO YOU. Since this series centers around music, I call each book a “track” instead. 🙂 I guess you can say the book “drops” today!
When Gina Santiago, a thirteen-year-old “Nuyorican” with rock star dreams, is accepted into the New York Academy of Arts and Talents for art instead of music, she’s crushed. To make matters worse, the student body is divided into “schollies” (students on scholarship, like her) and “dollies” (rich kids with “dollars”).
But Gina discovers that there is one thing that brings schollies and dollies–and dancers, singers, actors, and musicians–together: music! Maybe she can make her dreams come true after all…
You can order a copy online on Amazon or Barnes and Noble:
In other news, this is a very “angelic” day in other ways! It’s “Michelmas” or the feast day of St. Michael the Archangel (as well as St. Gabriel and Raphael–also Archangels)!
And oddly enough, tonight’s episode of Doctor Who also features angels: The Weeping Angels. Unlike St. Michael, these are bad–very bad angels. And they will mark the departure of the Doctor’s trusty companions, Rory and Amy. 😦 But I can’t wait to see it!
Angels galore today!
Are you ready to discover more stars? With a debut episode that introduced the world to Carly Rose Sonenclar, Emblem 3, Jennel Garcia (gotta love her name), and the promising Reed Demming, the X-Factor has started with a super-nova. I can’t imagine their finding even more talented young people than they already have. This is an exciting season already with some real talent (especially in the teen category). Some of these kids should have their own book series! Loved seeing 13 year-old Carly take to the stage with more confidence than Judy Garland! And to discover that Emblem 3 writes their own songs and plays their own instruments–and even dared debut one of their own songs to audition with! And yeah, it totally paid off. They could probably just get their own TV show without having to win X-Factor at all.
Lookin’ forward to Wednesday….
This is my first post! I am gearing up towards the release date of the first book in my series for tweens, THE ARTS-ANGELS, TRACK 1: DRAWN TO YOU (September 29th from Brushstroke Books, an imprint of Wyatt-MacKenzie). So what better way to celebrate a book about talented teens engaged in the arts than to watch some real-live ones in action?
I enjoyed attending the TEEN IDOL competition in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn this evening. Bay Ridgers are a talented bunch, and 15 teens took to the stage tonight in a sing-off. I must say, as an alum of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music and the Arts, I was very proud to see the school so well represented, and the prize won by a student from there, too! I expect to see some great things from those budding stars in the future. I will have to attend other arts events in Bay Ridge and at LaGuardia.
Is there a young star in your midst? A singer, a dancer, an actor, a musician, an artist? Or perhaps a tween who loves to read about the arts? If so, please direct them towards my website, www.theartsangels.com to learn more about the series before it comes out. It’s for the arts-angel in YOUR life!
